The last time you used your lawn mower, you may have noticed that it was not working as well as it did during previous uses. If so, look for the following signs that there is a problem with your mower that requires a repair service.

1.  Difficulty with Starting the Mower

One of the first things you may notice when there is an issue with your lawn mower is that you are having problems with starting it. While you may usually have to pull the cord a few times to engage the engine, you may recently find that it takes a few minutes of hard pulling for the motor to start.

If this is the case, there are two possible problems causing the issue. One problem could be that the spark plug may be worn and needs to be replaced. However, if you change the spark plug and still have problems, there is probably an issue with the engine itself that will need professional attention.

2.  Engine Leaking Oil

Another sign that your lawn mower is in need of professional repairs is when it starts to leak oil. If the mower is leaking oil, not having it checked out can lead to worn gears. Eventually, the motor may seize up if too much oil is lost.

In the best case scenario, the leaking oil may be caused by a loose plug or pan. However, if there is a crack in the engine, usually signified by black smoke coming from the exhaust, the block may need to be replaced by a professional before the entire mower breaks down, causing you to buy a new one.

3.  Mower Cutting Unevenly

While you are mowing, you may look back and notice that the areas of cut grass are uneven. You may see sections that are cut to the height you desire, but there may be intermittent areas where it does not seem that the mower is cutting at all.

This problem could be caused by a loose belt that is slipping, making the blades stall every so often. However, there could also be an issue with the motor's power, so it is advisable to have a professional look at it.

If your lawn mower is exhibiting any of the signs above, there could be a serious issue that could cause it to break down. Before this happens, take it to a lawn mower repair service so they can find the issue and take the necessary action.
